Hello Nickel Beer Fans!
The World Cup is in full swing and hopefully you have had a chance to enjoy our Penalty Shot hoppy pale ale. The beer was featured in the San Diego Beer News blog by the San Diego Reader as the Beer of the Week: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2014/jun/26/beer-nickel-pale-world-cup/. I will be brewing another batch of the beer to keep it on through the Summer months. In the coming weeks look for both a nitro version and a cask conditioned version to grace our taps.
Saturday night, June 28th we will have our second evening of acoustic music on the patio. Local musicians Bill Everett and Pete Dunbar will be strumming acoustic roots, Americana, classic rock, oldies, country and more starting just after 6 pm and going until it gets dark around 8 – 8:15. The show is free and we’ll keep the tasting room open until at least 8:30 pm for your imbibing enjoyment. The patio is a perfect place to enjoy a beer as the sun goes down. Feel free to bring your own food or snacks to enjoy during the show. All ages are welcome and you can make use of our free wi-fi before the show.
Also on Saturday we will have the afternoon World Cup match between Colombia and Uruguay on the big screen at 1pm. On Sunday, we will have surprising Costa Rica v. Greece at 1 pm.
We have re-stocked our merchandise again and we have new trucker-style one size fits all adjustable hats in stock. We have men’s and women’s tank tops well stocked for the warm weather.
ON TAP
The Stonewall Stout is on both draft and nitrogen right now. We’ll have a keg of nitro Filthy Paws Porter coming on tap soon – it is also our last keg of the Filthy Paws. Follow the Facebook page to see when it be served – https://www.facebook.com/NickelBeerCompany. The Kupfernickel Barleywine is still on tap, though this might be the last weekend we are serving it for a while. We will have a special blend of the barleywine and the Julian Pale Ale on tap soon though that is quite delicious.
I have a new German-style Hefeweizen in the fermentor that will be on tap next weekend. It will be a perfect warm weather beer. The yeast gives the beer the classic banana and clove spiciness that the style is known for. The beer will be just under 5% with a hazy straw yellow color. I should have it on tap when we open on Saturday, July 5th.
Around Town
I am working to get draft beer on tap at Jeremy’s on the Hill in July. We are installing a two tap kegorator that will allow Jeremy’s to keep Julian Pale Ale and a rotating specialty beer on tap. I will certainly keep you posted as to when we expect to pour the first beer. Also look for an amazing fried chicken special at Jeremy’s all summer long on Friday nights.
Finally, I am proud to announce that I have been asked to run for the title of Honorary Mayor of Julian to help raise funds for the Town Hall restoration project. The campaign will be taking place the entire month of July. There are four of us running for “Mayor” and the one of us that can raise the most money will be named the winner. There will be collection boxes around town and we will have one at the brewery as well next week. There will also be a campaign website with donation information. In the meantime, you can follow updates on the restoration project on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Julian-Town-Hall-Restoration-Project/1438103546449398. My platform for the 1880s themed campaign will be: Law, Order and Cold Beer.
That is your Nickel Beer news for now. We’ll see you soon for a great Julian brewed beer. Cheers, Tom
